  1. Mr Red says:

Brilliantly crafted tale told by an unreliable narrator whose unreliability is only revealed step by step as the novel progresses. Raises all kinds of key questions about guilt and innocence, deception and self-deception. More of an intellectual than an emotional appeal, perhaps, but gripping and shocking none the less.

  2. Mr Orange says:

Wonderful story by one of the few, worthy Nobel winners. This is one of his early works and it is easy to see the ideas and style that developed into his masterpiece, The Remains of the Day. This is more novella than novel with big ideas that are unrestrained by the small number of pages and sparse plot.
