Well written and enjoyable to read, but somehow by the end you are not sure what the point is. The opening chapter implies you will be part of Binx’s ‘search’ but you are let down. The title and blurb suggest the book is about a man whose escape is the movies; strangely there is almost nothing in the book about this part of Binx’s life! The book does give a nice feel for life in the southern states.
A small, forgettable quest story involving a dull protagonist. The author appears to have mainly focussed on the structure instead of the story. This meant that the only interesting aspect of the novel was the description of the Deep South, which was not enough to make up for it’s deficiencies.

A novel that doesn’t deliver what it promise – and where are the movies?
