  1. Mr Orange says:

A great idea which was published at just the right time to catch the prevailing public mood – can I use the word zeitgeist here? Unfortunately, Condon is not a very good writer which means that, whilst perfectly serviceable as a holiday thriller, you can’t help wondering how much better it would have been in the hands of Graham Greene.

  2. Mr Black says:

Sometimes a book is not great literature, but still is a romping good read. It’s relatively low score doesn’t do justice to its plot and humour – the Greenland igloo incident is pretty much unmatched by any of our past reads (excluding The Ginger Man).

  3. Mr Red says:

Classic example of a book with a great idea poorly executed leading to a much better movie. Thoroughly implausible depiction of brainwashing, which Robert Jay Lifton showed decades ago takes a very long time to have an effect. Mr Black needs to sort out his apostrophes by the way.
