Enjoyable depiction of clichés of travel in the late 19th century: Indian princess rescued from suttee, train on the Great Plains attacked by Red Indians, and above all the hero, every Frenchman’s idea of the imperturbable and unemotional Englishman.
Characters are somewhat stereotypical, but it is still a good humorous read today.
Not one of Verne’s better works and difficult to square with the film version (Niven, not Chan) which is more enjoyable.
