    Layers of wild and crazy writing. Difficult to follow the sureal stuff, but the some very funny moments when he returned to the life of the main protaganist.

    Generally tiresome. Little to recommend it apart from the verse on the ‘Pint of plain’. Although disappointingly, it turns out that Dublin barmen are totally unfamiliar with the term!

    If you like Tristram Shandy, you will like this surrealist masterpiece. The usual rules don’t apply here, not much of a story but an enjoyable ride.
